One hour after the arrest, some contact of Uyghur Times in Turkey told us that at 1:00 a.m. on December 27, the Turkish police raided the residence of Abdulla Abdulhamit Qarihauji in Istanbul, a Uyghur religious scholar and arrested.

The Uyghur Times previously investigated Abdulla Abdulhamit’s situation.Abdullah has been active in religious and political activities and outspoked against Chinese crimes and atrocities on Uyghurs. His relatives and friends told us that Abdualla has never involved in illegal activities, and has never been in conflict with anyone. Rashit Tora, a Uyghur scholar based in Istanbul said: “His case is all to do with the Chinese government: He made a speech calling for drastic action against the crime of genocide and colonialism and all aggression against the Uyghurs.Turkiye has been following Chinese directions on Uyghur issue for years.”

Speaking to the Uyghur Times from Istanbul, Ahmetjan, another religious scholar said :“Abdulla Abdulhemit is a Uyghur who loves and supports the Republic of Turkiye from the bottom of his heart and regards the Turkish people as his relatives. If he has a fault, it is that he wants independence and dignity for all Uyghurs, calls for the restoration of the name of Uyghuristan, his strict stance against the Chinese government, and calls the Uyghurs in exile to take action against the Chinese government. In his case, he challenged China. The problem is that many Uyghurs in Turkey that work for the Chinese government do not like him.

The Uyghur Times editorial calls on the Turkish government to immediately release Abdulla Abdulhamit and for Turkey to abide by international laws and ensure the safety of Uyghur expatriates in Turkey. It is not acceptable to abduct, punish, or deport any Uyghurs to the Chinese authorities based on false information from the regime.
