The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Uyghur Autonomous Region failed to carry out the ‘Xinjiang Expatriate Online Conference’ in the United States. The online event aimed to praise China’s policies in East Turkistan (Uyghuristan).

On December 31st, the Chinese state media ‘China Television‘ praised the event, explaining how they had introduced the Xinjiang situation and its development and how the ‘Xinjiang’ expatriates residing in the United States were happy. Chinese propaganda had failed.

Chinese government agencies initiated the video conference. Uyghurs, Han Chinese propaganda cadres, dancers, and religious figures from Mainland China attended the meeting. According to the Uyghur Times, Uyghurs and Uyghur students living in the United States abstained from attending the conference. They did so as not to show support to China.

Since 2017, China has pursued heinous genocidal policies in the Uyghurs’ homeland since its colonization in 1949. The world community has strongly condemned it. It must do more to stop it.
