Uyghur artist ‘Anwer Ablimit’ sentenced to 15 years

Anwer Ablimit, a renowned Uyghur musician, used to work for an oil extraction unit in Karamay. His nephew in exile lost contact with him in 2017. In 2019 he heard that Ablimit had been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Chinese government. The nephew does not know his whereabouts.

“Ablimit’s only crime is being an Uyghur. My uncle has always been a hard worker and loves arts and his own culture”, his nephew explains. “He is a well-known character Karamay.” The nephew in exile demands the Chinese government to release his uncle Anwer Ablimit and reunite him with his family.

Uyghur intellectuals, artists, religious leaders, and rich people have been the main targets of China’s genocidal crackdown against the Uyghur people.

Uyghur Tribunal delivers judgment on 9th December

On Saturday 27th November at 1300 GMT, the Uyghur Tribunal will hold a third virtual hearing to introduce new evidence from expert witnesses Professor Ton Zwaan and Dr. Adrain Zenz, the Uyghur Tribunal website says. The Uyghur Tribunal is an independent people's court of justice launched in Great Britain in September 2020. It examines China's human rights abuses against the Uyghur people and evaluates whether the violations constitute genocide under the Genocide Convention. The tribunal began its first series of hearings in June 2021, and the second set in September 2021.
