Olaf Scholz urged China to implement UN recommendations on Uyghur human rights.

Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor called on China to follow the UN’s guidelines for upholding the rights of Uyghurs.

 

 

 

 

“The former High Commissioner for Human Rights briefed us about the situation of the Uighurs in Xinjiang a few weeks ago. China should implement the High Commissioner’s recommendations. That would be a sign of sovereignty and strength and a guarantee of change for the better.”

 

When he took office, then the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the world should not “ignore when human rights are violated, as we are seeing in Xinjiang.”

 

Uyghur Human Rights Project said that “Angela Merkel went to great lengths not to directly mention Uyghurs throughout her tenure.”
