China says it has managed to gain support from some Persian Gulf States on its treatment of Uyghurs, following talks between their foreign ministers. Beijing invited ministers from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait, and the secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to discuss further cooperation, The Times (UK) reports.

NETHERLANDS – The Dutch border police arrested an American couple, Michael Horowitz and Dr. Devra Marcus, on Sunday. They had accompanied the family of Serikzhan Bilash, a Kazakh human rights advocate, to the Netherlands, China Aid reports.
Chinese media, Global Times, reports that a so-called ‘2021 Xinjiang Intellectuals Forum and Human Rights Symposium’ was held at the Chinese Academy of Historical Studies in Beijing on December 22. Frontier Research Institute of the Chinese History Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences organized the conference. The researchers that attended were from the Xinjiang-based Think Tank.
Intel, a US-based semiconductor manufacturer, has landed at odds with Beijing over human rights.
Intel has apologized to its Chinese suppliers for the ban of using components from ‘Xinjiang’. The ban created fiery discussions among Chinese netizens on Weibo, calling for Beijing to punish Intel.
The controversy started after Intel sent a note to its Chinese suppliers saying they should not use Xinjiang-made components in Intel’s chips.
Russia has detained two journalists, Nazgul Kenzhetay and Emin Karaçak, from a Turkish news website, GZT. The two were arrested on Dec. 16th on alleged charges of “espionage” after they traveled to the Sakha Republic to record a vlog on Turkic communities and cultures, GZT reports.

A renowned scientific journal has retracted a paper based on DNA samples from nearly 38,000 men in China. The samples come from Uyghurs and Tibetans, who almost certainly did not give proper consent, the Intercept reports.
Michael Polak, a British lawyer representing the World Uyghur Congress and the Uyghur Human Rights Project, is preparing ‘a universal jurisdiction criminal complaint’ to submit to the criminal courts of Argentina in February, Polak said in a tweet.
BELGRADE, SERBIA – On December 3rd, 2021, Uyghur News heard of a threat of deportation of an Uyghur man named Qahar Héytem. While transiting via Belgrade to Europe, the Serbian police detained Mr. Héytemat at Belgrade airport on December 2nd. Mr. Héytem is a resident of Turkey.
