The Canadian parliament unanimously voted in favor of a non-binding proposal for the resettlement of 10,000 Uyghur Muslim refugees who escaped China’s genocide and brutal policies into Canada over two years.
Canadian MPs and advocates are calling on the federal government to resettle in Canada 10,000 Uyghurs and other Turkic refugees who have fled China, the Star reports. Experts, however, warn that it could create a diplomatic rift between Ottawa and Beijing.
The Canadian Parliament voted on the bill to grant asylum to Uyghurs and other Turkic groups persecuted by the Chinese regime. The bill received 258 votes in favor and 0 votes against it.
