So-called Autonomous Government Calls for “Enhanced Security”

According to Xinjiang Daily, the official mouthpiece of the so-called Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, an executive meeting was held by the regional government, calling for enhanced security and studying the spirit of Xi Jinping’s speech during his visit to the region. The meeting emphasized the need to adhere to political guidance, the implementation of Xi Jinping’s instructions as a crucial political task, to determine to faithfully uphold the “two establishments” and resolutely achieve the “two maintenances.”

“Two safeguards” is a political slogan put forward by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in September 2018. It refers to “Resolutely safeguard the core position of General Secretary Xi Jinping as the core of the Party Central Committee and the Party as a whole, Resolutely safeguard the authority of the Party Central Committee and centralized and unified leadership

The report stated, “On the morning of the 21st, the chairman of the autonomous region, Erkin Tuniyazi, presided over the executive meeting of the autonomous region government to further study and implement the spirit of the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s inspection of Xinjiang’s important speech, and implement the general secretary’s and the Party Central Committee’s decisions on Xinjiang work in the government system.”

Xj Daily said The meeting also stressed “unwavering implementation of the new development concept, systematic planning for high-quality economic and social development, increased efforts to improve people’s livelihoods, focus on enhancing government governance capabilities and service levels, and persistent efforts to improve work style. All these actions aim to embody the spirit of implementing Xi Jinping’s important instructions in practical work and address specific issues with dedication.”

The contents and spirit of the regional government’s meeting have been focused on stability and security for decades, given that the CCP has never “felt safe” in the occupied Uyghur homeland.

This meeting and its call for stability come amidst the Chinese central government’s propagation that it has stabilized the region after a prolonged crackdown and genocidal policies, which casts doubt on the credibility of the CCP government.
