NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom has received the 2022 Freedom Award from the Captives Nation Coalition of the Committee on the Present Danger: China (CPDC)

The NBA star has risked his career in basketball to speak out against China’s human rights abuses. Last week, the Boston Celtics traded Mr. Freedom to the Houston Rockets. Just as quickly, The Rockets waived him.

“I cannot call myself a hero when we have these heroes [in] front of me,” Freedom said at the February 17 ceremony

The athlete received international attention by using his Twitter account to demand Xi Jinping and the CCP cease their bloody oppression of different ethnic groups and dissidents, namely Uyghurs, Tibetans, and Hongkongers.

Chinese TV stations responded by refusing to broadcast games in which Freedom played, costing the NBA millions of dollars in lost revenues.
