Microsoft Bing AI Declines Discussion on Uyghur Genocide in Precise Mode, but Allows in Balanced Mode

Microsoft Bing AI alters stance, now open to discussing Uyghur genocide

By Tunji Uyghur

Microsoft’s Bing Chat started to answer the question about the Chinese government’s crimes against the Uyghur people and the Uyghur genocide.

Bing answered the question, “Is there an Uyghur genocide?” by saying, “Yes, multiple reports confirm that the Communist Party of China is currently enacting an Uyghur genocide.” In September 2020, nearly two dozen activist groups signed an open letter urging the UNHRC to investigate whether crimes against humanity or genocide were taking place in Xinjiang. The Uyghur Tribunal cited birth control and sterilization measures allegedly carried out by the state against the Uyghurs as the primary reason for reaching its conclusion.

Bing has refused to answer the same question that was asked by prominent Uyghur expert Adrian Zenz on March 25, who said that” I find it particularly concerning that Bing didn’t want to provide information about sterilization because there are “different views” on the issue, and because of supposed complexities created by “geopolitical” dynamics. That mirrors the disinformation narrative of the CCP.

Uyghur Times has tried another question that was asked by Mr.Zenz: “Is there a genocide among the Uyghurs?” Bing answered:” Yes, China has committed genocide against the Uyghur people in Xinjiang1. Multiple reports confirm that the Communist Party of China is currently enacting an Uighur genocide2. The US says China is committing genocide against the Uyghurs3.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.”
