The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, China’s anti-corruption body, has apprehended Li Pengxin, the former education chief of Xinjiang, over corruption allegations. Li, aged 63, had led a crackdown on education officials in Xinjiang and becomes the second high-ranking official in the region to face scrutiny this year. This action aligns with a recent directive from the Politburo, emphasizing heightened initiatives to strengthen political supervision and counter corruption.
A brief news statement by Xinhua News agency reads “Li Pengxin, the former deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.”
