US-sanctioned Chairman of the People’s Government of Xinjiang, Erken Tuniyaz, visited Hungary in early September, and the Hungarian government “forgot” to inform the Hungarian people about it, Tompos Márton shares on X.
The EU has sanctioned Tuniyaz due to his involvement in the detainment of over a million Uyghurs in Xinjiang. Tuniyaz, though Uyghur himself, backs Beijing’s policies of arbitrary detentions of Uyghurs, forced assimilation, family separation, and elimination of Uyghur culture and language in general.
A US ally shouldn’t welcome someone like Tuniyaz, yet Márton Nagy (Minister for Economic Development), Levente Magyar (Secretary of State, MFA), Sándor Lezsák (Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly) and MP Mónika Dunai were all there, Marton continues.
Another interesting “coincidence” is that Xinjiang is supposed to be the starting point for the Chinese train line ending in a planned chemical distribution center in Budapest. Despite several leaked documents, the Hungarian government denies support for the project.
