Abdullah Alim, a young Uyghur student who went to university in the city of Kahramanmaraş, near the center of the Turkish earthquake, was buried in the rubble after a building collapsed. He was rescued and sent to the hospital, where he later passed away.
So far, there have not been other Uyghur casualties, as most Uyghurs live in Istanbul and Kayseri in Central Turkiye. Turkiye hosts the largest Uyghur diasporic population, standing at around 50,000.
