The Canadian parliament unanimously voted in favor of a non-binding proposal for the resettlement of 10,000 Uyghur refugees who escaped China’s genocide and brutal policies into Canada over two years.

The Canadian House of Commons voted 322-0 for Liberal member of parliament Sameer Zuberi’s bill, which also demanded that the government acknowledge that Uyghurs and other ethnic Turkic Muslims who have fled to third countries face “pressure and intimidation” from China to return.

“Canada will always do its part in helping those in need of protection,I am committed to working with members of all parties to advance the measures outlined in the motion adopted by the House of Commons today.” Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said in a statement. “

In 2021, Canada became one of the first countries to recognize China’s treatment of the Uyghurs as genocide.

Major media outlets have reported that dozens of Muslim and Arab countries have been deporting Uyghurs to China for decades.

In 2021, CNN reported that “Uyghurs are being deported from Muslim countries, raising concerns about China’s growing reach”.

Canada was also among the countries that tried to hold a debate at the United Nations last year about alleged human rights abuses by China against Uyghurs and others in the Uyghur region, which the Uyghurs call East Turkistan or Uyghuristan.

The Uyghur community around the world was overjoyed by the news, and social media was flooded with gratitude and thanks to those who worked on the bill.

Gulshan Abdukadir, an Uyghur activist from Canada wrote: The Uyghur people have an epic fiction called Yiril, Tashim, “Crack for us, my stone’ which depicts that people who escape the devil go to the giant stone and ask it to crack and give them safe haven.” Today, that epic reemerged in our eyes. Thank you Canada”

“Canada opened his arms for helpless Uyghurs,” Amina, 54, a mother of three from Turkey, told Uyghur Times. We witnessed a true example of humanity. Please tell me when I can go to Canada with my three children who need a safe place to live and study without fear of being deported to China from Muslim and Turkish countries.’

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, said on Thursday that the people of Xinjiang live in peace and work happily, and that human rights protections for all ethnicities in the region are constantly improving.
