U.S. lawmakers urge UN to release Uyghur rights report before Beijing Olympics

WASHINGTON — Sen Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Rep. James P. McGovern (D-MA), the Chair and Co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional-Executive Commission on China, sent a letter to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.

McGovern (D-MA), the Chair and Co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional-Executive Commission on China, sent a letter to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet. They urged her to release an assessment of human rights violations in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) before the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
