Uyghur Representatives Highlight Uyghur Genocide at International Conference in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Uyghur representatives shed light on the ongoing genocide and human rights abuses in their homeland at an international conference titled “Reassessing Human Security in Central and South Asia.” The event, held in Kuala Lumpur, was organized by Malaysia’s prominent Islamic institution, Accin, in collaboration with MAPIM and ABIM, two of the country’s largest Islamic organizations.

Omer Kanat, Executive Director of the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP), delivered a powerful address highlighting the systematic oppression faced by Uyghurs in East Turkistan. He emphasized the urgency of international solidarity and Muslim unity in combating atrocities such as mass detentions, cultural destruction, and severe restrictions on religious practices.

In a speech titled “Human Rights and Freedom of the Uyghur People: Can a Solution Be Drafted?” Hidayet Oğuzhan, another Uyghur representative, underscored the ongoing genocide and proposed potential solutions to address the crisis. His remarks called for coordinated international action to ensure justice and protection for the Uyghur people.

Umit Hemit Agahi, Director of the Uyghur Freedom Forum, also attended and spoke at the event. He echoed calls for urgent intervention and solidarity, urging governments and organizations to take decisive steps in holding China accountable for its human rights abuses.

The conference served as a platform to discuss human security challenges in Central and South Asia, with Uyghur representatives ensuring that the plight of their people was central to the dialogue. Participants expressed their support for Uyghur rights and reaffirmed a commitment to addressing the crisis in East Turkistan through advocacy and action.
