Uyghurs in Paris joined the Nowruz celebrations on Saturday, March 19, hosted by the European Uyghur Institute, Uyghur Times Uyghur Edition reports.
The event began at 1 pm at ‘Olympe de Gouges’ in the 11th District of Paris and continued until 7 pm. In addition to Uyghurs living in France, the event was attended by hundreds of Uyghurs from other European countries, including the Netherlands and Switzerland.
At the beginning of the event, the Uyghurs living in and around Paris welcomed guests from far and wide with delicious food prepared in their homes. In addition to Uyghurs and Kazakhs, the Nowruz event, there were politicians, celebrities, and members of the “Supporting Uyghurs” group.
After lunch, the guests enjoyed an art performance by students of the ‘Paris Mother Tongue School’. During the event, Uyghur artists from France, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and other countries performed great songs such as traditional songs, dances, and muqqams, which the audience greatly appreciated.
Mr. Jean-Luc Romero, Deputy Mayor of Paris, Mr. Olivier Faure, Chairman of the Socialist Party, who has strongly spoken about the Uyghur genocide in the French Parliament, Mr. Raphael Glucksmann, Member of the European Parliament and members of his group, representatives of the Paris Municipality, representatives of the region, took part in the event.
Ms. Dilnur Ryan, Director of the European Uyghur Institute, and the main organizer spoke on behalf of all Uyghurs and thanked the French politicians and activists who participated and had publically spoken up for the Uyghurs. She also thanked Mr. Olivier Faure, a Member of the Parliament, who had brought up the issue of the Uyghur genocide in the French Parliament, by presenting him with an Uyghur doppah. Uyghur teenagers handed wreaths to Ms. Dilnur Ryan and Mr. Olivier Faure on behalf of the entire Uyghur community to express their sincere gratitude and respect.
In the end, the Nowruz celebrations ended in a lively Uyghur way.
