OPINION: Why did President Biden omit any mention of Uyghurs from his telephone call with Leader Xi Jinping on November 15th? Biden only referred to human rights in general but avoided any mention of Uyghurs or Tibetans.
a) BIDEN: All countries have to play by the same rules of the road. [This is] why the United States is always going to stand up for our interests and values and those of our allies and partners,” Biden said.
COMMENT: How can the rest of the world be assured, that China will play by the rules if it has not done so in the past?
B) BIDEN: I am sure that today we will be discussing those areas where we have concerns — from human rights to economics to ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific”, Biden continues.
COMMENT: Will the Biden Administration stand on their previous statement, about China committing genocide against the Uyghurs.
c) BIDEN: And I think it’s important we communicate honestly and directly to one another about our priorities and our intentions.
COMMENT: China should have done this all the while since it joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001 and inherited its seat at the UN from the Republic of China in 1971.
d) XI: We should each run our domestic affairs well and, at the same time, shoulder our share of international responsibilities and work together to advance the noble cause of world peace and development. China and the United States should respect each other, coexist in peace, and pursue win-win cooperation.
COMMENT: Committing genocide cannot be considered as ‘running one’s domestic affairs well’.
