After the horrific terror attack by Hamas against Israeli civilians on October 7, Uyghur groups and activists issued statements condemning the attack on innocent civilians and expressing their solidarity with the Israeli people and the families of the victims.
The World Uyghur Congress stated, “The World Uyghur Congress strongly condemns the horrific attacks by Hamas against Israeli civilians and expresses deep concern about the prospect of an escalation of conflict and further loss of lives. We stand in solidarity with all those suffering from terror and war, and we keep all those impacted by violence in our prayers. The WUC urges the international community to take urgent action to protect civilian lives and establish an effective mechanism for achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
On October 7, just a few hours after Hamas’s horrific terror attack on Israeli civilians, The Uyghur Times, with its founder Tahir Imin, issued the first Uyghur statement on the first day of the attack, condemning Hamas’s terrorist act against Israeli civilians. The Uyghur edition of the Uyghur Times has published multiple news reports and op-eds highlighting the horrific nature of Hamas’s terror acts.
Omer Kanat, the Executive Director of the Uyghur Human Rights Project, issued a statement, saying, “It is horrifying to see the deliberate, brutal attacks on civilians, including women, men, and children, by Hamas. UHRP stands with all victims of atrocities and violence.”
The Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project (URAP), a Canada-based Uyghur rights group, issued a statement: “The Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project (URAP) condemns in the strongest terms possible the barbaric attacks by Hamas terrorists on innocent Israelis this past weekend. URAP extends its condolences to the families and friends of the hundreds that lost their lives and those still in captivity in Gaza, and prays for the recovery of the thousands more injured and the safe return of all Israeli hostages.”
Salih Hudayar, the founder of the East Turkistan National Awakening Movement, expressed, “While some Uyghurs may differ, I stand with Israel against the aggression of Hamas, which is backed by China and Iran. As China supports Palestine, it relentlessly wages genocide and maintains an occupation in East Turkistan. Palestine, along with many Muslim nations, shamelessly sided with our oppressors.”
