Ceremony Honoring Uyghur Poet and Professor Sultan Mahmud Held in Istanbul

Prominent Uyghur Organizations Celebrate Uyghur Poet and Professor Sultan Mahmud Kashigi’s 85th Birthday, 70 Years of Literary Work, and 55 Years of Academic Achievements in Istanbul

The World Uyghur Writers Union, East Turkistan Foundation, World Uyghur Congress Foundation, and Humayana Turkic World Women’s Union held a special ceremony in Istanbul to honor Poet and Professor Sultan Mahmud Kashigi. The event celebrated three milestones: his 85th birthday, the 70th anniversary of his literary career, and the 55th anniversary of his academic achievements.

The celebration brought together the master’s family and relatives, leaders of the organizing groups, and intellectuals from various fields. The hosts highlighted meaningful moments from his life, including his writings, research, contributions to Uyghur medicine, and offered reflections on the master and his works.

Poet and professor Dr. Sultan Mahmud Kashigi has dedicated 85 years to literary creation and academic research, producing 19 books across multiple genres. Many of his works have been published by various publishers both inside and outside his homeland.

During his tenure as a doctoral supervisor at the University of Therakia, he guided students in studying significant works of Uyghur literature. Master Sultan Mahmud Kashigi is not only an accomplished poet and professor but has also made notable contributions to Uyghur medicine, authoring several books and articles on the subject.

This appreciation event was the first of its kind and held a unique significance. Participants noted that honoring the achievements of Uyghur elders who have excelled in various fields provides scholars with spiritual strength for further creativity, research, and work, while also offering encouragement and inspiration to the next generation.

At the conclusion of the event, the World Uyghur Writers Association expressed their gratitude to the master, presenting him with a ceremonial hat. Organizations and individuals who participated offered flowers, books, and various gifts as symbols of respect and appreciation.
