Uyghur Times: Uyghur Truth, Uyghur Voice
Uyghur Times is an independent media organization reporting on China and Central Asia, with a focus on Uyghur human rights, cultural life, and diaspora communities. We aim to amplify Uyghur voices, document ongoing injustices, and preserve the rich cultural heritage of our people.
Founded in 2018 by Uyghur scholar and human rights advocate Tahir Imin, Uyghur Times operates as a self-funded, volunteer-driven initiative. Independent of any political party or government, we are guided solely by our commitment to truth, fairness, and the Uyghur community.
As a partner publication of Uyghur Post, a leading Uyghur-language media outlet, we regularly translate and publish articles and opinion pieces originally appearing in Uyghur Post, bringing them to a global English-speaking audience.
Our Principles and Team
Uyghur Times upholds strict journalistic standards, following internationally recognized reporting, fact-checking, and source verification practices.
Our team is entirely volunteer-driven, composed of journalists, scholars, writers, and experts in politics, history, literature, and language. Guest contributors include prominent Uyghur scholars and activists from across the global diaspora.
As founder Tahir Imin has said:
“These volunteer professionals are the most honest voice of the Uyghur people. Despite immense pressure, lack of social recognition, and no financial reward, they remain dedicated and passionate in working on behalf of our community.”
What We Cover
Uyghur Times documents China’s ongoing policies toward Uyghurs and reports on human rights cases, including:
- Destruction of Uyghur homes, cultural, and religious sites
- Detention, arrest, and enforced disappearances of Uyghur individuals
- Transnational repression targeting Uyghurs and their communities worldwide
We also cover developments within the global Uyghur diaspora, including cultural and identity preservation, community-building, political advocacy, refugee issues, literature, and music.
Uyghur Voices
We provide an open and inclusive platform for diverse perspectives from the Uyghur diaspora, ranging from conservative to liberal viewpoints and spanning communities in Western countries, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
Our Impact
Reporting by Uyghur Times has been cited by international media, academic research, and human rights organizations, strengthening awareness of the Uyghur struggle and promoting informed global dialogue.
Challenges and Commitment
As a platform exposing human rights abuses and disinformation campaigns by the Chinese government and its global affiliates, Uyghur Times has been subjected to repeated cyberattacks. Nearly all volunteers, including founder Tahir Imin Uyghurian, have been personally affected by China’s genocide, with family members imprisoned or disappeared into its extensive camp system.
Our work is grounded in lived experience, deep commitment, and unwavering dedication to documenting truth and defending the rights and dignity of Uyghur people worldwide.
