Who we are: Uyghur Times

Who we are: Uyghur Times

Uyghur Times, based in Washington, DC, is a media organization dedicated to reporting on Uyghur human rights, life, and culture. Our coverage extends to Uyghur communities worldwide, China’s political landscape, and Central Asia, presented in multiple languages.  Founded in 2018 by Uyghur scholar and rights advocate Tahir Imin Uyghurian, it is a self-funded, volunteer-based, independent media organization (not affiliated with political organizations or governments)  that relies on the personal financing of its founder and the support of the Uyghur community in the diaspora.

Our mission:

We speak the truth about the Uyghurs!

At Uyghur Times, our mission is to provide an authentic and unbiased voice for the Uyghur people. Through our news reports, opinions, firsthand information, interviews, and polls, we strive to shed light on China’s policies concerning Uyghur individuals, international responses, and Uyghur diaspora life. We distribute our original content as well as verified information from reliable sources across our 15 websites and 50 social media accounts, reaching millions of people worldwide.

Uyghur Times Team:

The Uyghur Times, a volunteer-based organization, has assembled a team of Uyghur and non-Uyghur intellectuals who possess expertise in journalism, politics, history, literature, and language.

As Mr.Tahir Imin said: “ These volunteer professionals are the most honest voice of Uyghur people, despite the great pressure they are facing and lack of any social recognition and financial benefit, they are passionate and dedicated to work on behalf of Uyghur people”

Uyghur Times Projects: Current Status and Future Plans

While these key Uyghur Times initiatives are currently inactive, we are working to revive them soon. Each project plays a vital role in amplifying Uyghur voices and preserving Uyghur culture, identity, and human rights narratives. Below is an overview of each project, its purpose, and our vision moving forward:

1. Uyghur Radio

About: Uyghur Radio International is an online platform for audio content under Uyghur Times. It hosts programs on literature, culture, politics, religion, music, psychology, and language learning.
Future Plan: We aim to relaunch Uyghur Radio with a broader selection of content and improved production quality. A new platform update and content partnership outreach are in development.

2. Voice of Uyghur -Uyghur Voices (Podcast)
🎙️ Available on youtube

Status: Active
About: “Voice of Uyghur” is a news and commentary podcast featuring interviews, discussions, and editorial content in both audio and video formats. It is a registered trademark of Uyghur Times and its founder.
Future Plan: We plan to resume regular podcast episodes with new voices, expert guests, and broader distribution across platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts.

3. TV Uyghur (Video Platform)
📺 YouTube:here

Status: active.
About: TV Uyghur is a Uyghur-language video platform that produced weekly news bulletins and cultural programs.
Future Plan: We intend to update TV Uyghur with updated studio production, more frequent news videos, and wider community engagement, especially for youth content.

4. Uyghur Online Forum
💬 munber.iuyghur.com

Status: Offline temporarily
About: This discussion forum was established to create a digital gathering space for Uyghurs to share ideas, essays, and cultural content in their own language. Inspired by earlier forums shut down by the Chinese government, it honors the legacy of online Uyghur discourse.
Future Plan: We plan to relaunch the forum with better security, moderation tools, and mobile accessibility, fostering a safe and free space for dialogue among Uyghurs worldwide.
