Who we are: Uyghur Times
Uyghur Times is an independent, volunteer-driven news platform dedicated to amplifying Uyghur voices and stories worldwide. Our coverage spans Uyghur human rights, culture, and diaspora life, as well as China’s political landscape and developments across Central Asia. Published in multiple languages, our content reaches diverse audiences around the globe.
Founded in 2018 by Uyghur scholar and rights advocate Tahir Imin Uyghurian, Uyghur Times is self-funded and operated entirely by volunteers. We are not affiliated with any political party or government, and we maintain full editorial independence. Uyghur Times has evolved into a collective platform for the Uyghur diaspora and a community media outlet. It belongs to no one and remains fully independent, run and managed by a devoted collective of volunteers, free from financial, political, or legal control by any individual or organization.
At Uyghur Times, we do not generate revenue or seek profit, and we never charge readers for access to our content. Our sole mission is to provide objective reporting on Uyghur life and the human rights conditions of the Uyghur people.
Our mission:
We speak the truth about the Uyghurs!
At Uyghur Times, we are dedicated to providing authentic, independent coverage and reporting on the Uyghur people. Through news reports, analysis, firsthand accounts, interviews, and surveys, we document China’s policies toward Uyghurs, international responses, and life in the Uyghur diaspora. Our original reporting, along with verified content from trusted sources, is shared across 15 websites and 50 social media channels, reaching millions worldwide.
Uyghur Times Team
Uyghur Times is a volunteer-driven organization bringing together a team of intellectuals with expertise in journalism, politics, history, literature, and language. Each language channel operates independently in terms of finance, editorial management, and volunteer coordination, run by volunteers around the world who are native or fluent speakers, ensuring both accuracy and cultural understanding.
Nearly all volunteers, including founder Tahir Imin Uyghurian, have been personally affected by China’s genocide, with family members imprisoned or disappeared into its extensive camp system, grounding our work in lived experience and deep commitment to the Uyghur community.
As Mr.Tahir Imin said: “ These volunteer professionals are the most honest voice of Uyghur people, despite the great pressure they are facing and lack of any social recognition and financial benefit, they are passionate and dedicated to work on behalf of Uyghur people”
