July 10, 2025 – Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ehet had worked as a teacher and guardian in China’s internment camps in the Uyghur homeland (referred to by China as “Xinjiang”) between 2016 and 2021. He later fled to Turkey in 2023 and sought refuge in Europe.
According to sources close to the case, Sarajevo authorities contacted the Chinese Embassy immediately after his death to coordinate next steps. However, as of July 10, the embassy has not responded or claimed his body.
Ehet’s death raises serious concerns about the safety of Uyghur exiles and Beijing’s disregard for its own citizens who expose human rights abuses. Rights advocates are now calling for an independent investigation into the cause of death and proper burial arrangements.
The Uyghur Times will continue to monitor this developing story.
This incident was first verified and reported by Abduweli Ayup, a Uyghur linguist and human rights activist.
