On December 12, 2025, an online English speech competition was held under the organization of the Hira Science, Technology, and Development Foundation.
A total of 20 Uyghur students aged between 15 and 20 participated in the competition. From more than 100 English speech videos submitted, students with the most accurate pronunciation and the strongest memorization of the text were evaluated and selected by expert instructors from the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, and Turkey.
According to available information, this English speech competition marked the fourth online competition organized by the Hira Science, Technology, and Development Foundation.
In an interview, Luqmancan Muallim, President of the Hira Science, Technology, and Development Foundation, stated:
“We decided to hold the competition online in order to reduce expenses for the activities commemorating the tenth anniversary of the establishment of Hira School and to redirect those funds toward education. Through this competition, we hope to inspire a strong motivation among Uyghur children to learn English.”
Observers note that holding such activities in the diaspora plays an important role in helping Uyghur children master the English language, engage with science and technology, and better understand the world.
Kokbike,also known as Abide Abbas Nesrin, a correspondent for the Uyghur Post, is a graduate of Al-Azhar University’s Faculty of Arabic Language. She is based in Istanbul, where she teaches Uyghur language and literature.
