The 5th session of the 13th Peoples’ Government of ‘Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (that Uyghurs prefer to call East Turkistan) has elected Erken Tuniyaz as its chairperson.
Zainura Isa, an Uyghur poet and a great daughter of the Uyghur nation passed away due to an illness in Istanbul on January 8, 2022.
Ms. Isa was born in Kashgar in 1944. She spent her childhood in Aksu and in Turpan. After graduating from high school, she entered the ‘Xinjiang’ University of Language and Literature in 1960. In 1965, she graduated from the University with honors. After graduating, she became a lecturer at the same university.
Kazakh State TV has paraded Vikram Ruzahunov, an Uyghur jazz musician from Kyrgyzstan, in front of the cameras for a coerced confession. Ruzahunov had multiple cuts and bruises on his face while appearing on the screen and ‘confessing’ that someone had paid him 200 dollars to enter Kazakhstan.
BELGRADE, SERBIA – On December 3rd, 2021, Uyghur News heard of a threat of deportation of an Uyghur man named Qahar Héytem. While transiting via Belgrade to Europe, the Serbian police detained Mr. Héytemat at Belgrade airport on December 2nd. Mr. Héytem is a resident of Turkey.
On Saturday 27th November at 1300 GMT, the Uyghur Tribunal will hold a third virtual hearing to introduce new evidence from expert witnesses Professor Ton Zwaan and Dr. Adrain Zenz, the Uyghur Tribunal website says.
The Uyghur Tribunal is an independent people’s court of justice launched in Great Britain in September 2020. It examines China’s human rights abuses against the Uyghur people and evaluates whether the violations constitute genocide under the Genocide Convention. The tribunal began its first series of hearings in June 2021, and the second set in September 2021.
Anwer Ablimit, a renowned Uyghur musician, used to work for an oil extraction unit in Karamay. His nephew in exile lost contact with him in 2017. In 2019 he heard that Ablimit had been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Chinese government. The nephew does not know his whereabouts.
China has confiscated tens of millions of dollars of property and assets of Uyghur detainees in “Xinjiang” (Uyghurland or East Turkistan). Courts sell off property and company shares once belonging to jailed Uyghur business owners.
Just as the world is coming to grips with the Xinjiang cotton war, there is another conflict looming on the horizon: the Xinjiang tomato war!
Nasdaq-listed video streaming site Bilibili and language studying app Talkmate seem to have taken down Uyghur and Tibetan languages from their platforms.
