The National Democratic Party held the second meeting of the study group on human rights diplomacy and economic security in Parliament on March 2nd 2021. They heard the statement from the Japan Uyghur Association about the suppression of the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region by the Chinese authorities.

While the Vice Chairman of the association, Retepu Afumetto introduced reports from the overseas think tanks, he explained the relationship between forced labor by Uyghurs and the supply chain of well-known companies. He also pointed out the forced sterilization of women and educational assimilation for the children in the autonomous region.

Afumetto mentioned that the U.S. government, the Canadian House of Representatives, and the Dutch House of Representatives have accused China of “genocide” in the region. "In the next six months, there will definitely be more countries recognizing the genocide. “If the situation is that Japan is the only country that does nothing, it is a scene I don't want to see. I think that it is a scene that many Japanese people don't want to see either."

Shiori Yamao, a member of the House of Representatives who is the chief examiner of the study group said, "I think that further neglect will be negative support. If this is neglected, Japan will not be qualified to discuss human rights diplomacy. I would like to promise that we will offer strong support to Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.”

The study group will continue to consider the fact that Japan is not a member of the "Genocide Convention" which stipulates the prevention and punishment for mass murder.
