The Chinese government has published a report on the Uyghur population; The main points from the preliminary summary data of the seventh national census in 2020:
— The total population of Xinjiang is 25,852,300, the people of Han is 10.9201 million, and the people of ethnic minorities is 14.9322 million.
— The population of minorities:14.9322 million people, with an average annual growth rate of 1.41%.
—the Uyghur population has increased from 8,345,600 in 2000 to 11.6243 million in 2020, with an average annual growth rate of 1.67%.
The official website of the Central government of the People's Republic of China has published a white paper, an official document, on the population of the Uyghur region with the title of "Population development of Xinjiang" on Sep 26, 2021, in an attempt to reject what independent experts exposed on Chinese government's systemic and deliberate suppression of population growth and prevention of birth.
In conclusion, the report said :
"The Chinese government unswervingly safeguards national sovereignty, security and development interests, unswervingly promotes the unity and struggle of all ethnic groups for common prosperity and development, unswervingly implements the party's strategy of governing Xinjiang in the new era, and insists on governing Xinjiang according to law, unity and stability, and culture Run Xinjiang, enrich the people and build Xinjiang for a long time, and strive to build a socialist Xinjiang with Chinese characteristics in a new era that is united, harmonious, prosperous and wealthy, civilized, advanced, life and work in peace, and have a sound ecology. The green hills can't cover it; after all, it flows eastward. The modernization process of Xinjiang is unstoppable by anyone or any force. The future of Xinjiang is bound to be even better!”
Adrian Zenz, a leading scholar on Uyghur human rights research, told Uyghur Times that "The strategy of this white paper is obviously to portray Xinjiang's population growth over long periods of time. However, the dramatic decline in birth rates began in 2017; this is being plastered over by comparing the population in 10-year steps."
Mr.Zenz had published a report on China's population policy, in which he said, "Based on population projections by Chinese researchers, this difference could range between 2.6 and 4.5 million lives by 2040." As a conclusion, he said" "Population 'optimization' discourses and related policies provide a basis to assess Beijing's 'intent to destroy an ethnic minority population in part through birth prevention per the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention".
Rian Thum, Another China expert, the author of "The Sacred Routes of Uyghur History." wrote on Twitter:
"Its central distortion is to say Uyghur population increased from 2010 to 2020 (it did) when the problem is that Uyghur births were brutally suppressed from 2017 onward. So they're hiding the crash in Uyghur population growth rates 2017-2020 by presenting all data in a block that includes a period of high Uyghur growth rates (2010-2016). They never say what happened between 2017 and 2020. A more typical distortion (omission rather than plain lies) is in ethnic proportions. They give them for the present, but don't want to say that the proportion of Han in Xinjiang was around 6% when the CCP took over. It's now over 30%, thanks to state-sponsored settler policy. This would seem to be crucial data for a state looking to convince the world that it is not preventing births in an indigenous group."
Uyghur activists and human rights organizations believe that Under the guise of national security and an anti-extremism campaign, the Chinese government has been utilizing all available state authority and public power to exterminate and assimilate the Uyghur community.
