Committee on CCP: China Uses Advanced Chips to Monitor Uyghurs

On Thursday, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met with NVIDIA President and CEO Jensen Huang in Beijing. During the meeting, He expressed China’s willingness to welcome more U.S.-funded enterprises—such as NVIDIA—to expand their presence in the Chinese market and leverage their technological strengths to enhance global competitiveness.

In response, the U.S. House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) issued a brief statement condemning the use of advanced semiconductor technology by the CCP to surveil Uyghur Muslims. According to the committee, these high-tech systems employ facial recognition, biometric data collection, and widespread camera surveillance to monitor and flag “suspicious” behavior—such as growing a beard or using apps like WhatsApp.
