China continues to exploit Uyghurs for its national image and economic interests, using every possible tactic to further its agenda.

On December 22, the finals of the 2024 Miss World Tourism China competition were held in Hengdian, Zhejiang province. Mahire Tursunai Rahman, representing the so-called “Xinjiang competition region,” gained widespread online attention. She was crowned champion after excelling in various categories, including stage performance, artistic talent, professional demeanor, and adherence to competition rules.

According to the Chinese state-run media outlet People’s Daily Online, Tursunai will represent China in the global Miss World Tourism competition.

Tahir Imin, founder of the Uyghur Times, commented on the development:
“While China continues its genocide against Uyghurs, it selectively promotes certain individuals as propaganda tools to present a false image to the world. This tactic is a clear attempt to mask its own vulnerabilities. However, the negative impact of such actions is significant. Uyghurs must leverage the power of media to expose China’s ongoing human rights abuses.”

China’s use of Uyghurs in international platforms like this highlights its persistent strategy to divert attention from its oppressive policies in the Uyghur homeland. Uyghurs and their advocates are urged to remain vigilant and counter these narratives through truth and solidarity.
