Chinese Government announced on Monday a new “Appointments and removal list of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region “after Adoption at the 18th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th People’s Congress of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on September 19, 2020.

The People’s Daily, a State-run media reported that Sun Hongmei (Manchu, Female ) and Liu Sushe (Chinese, Male ) appointed to be new Chairmen of the Uyghur Autonomous Region.

It reads “It was decided to appoint Sun Hongmei (female) as the vice-chairmen of the People’s Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.”

It is not clear why CCP appointed new Chairmen for the region, one of them of Manchu origin, amid increasing international criticism of its treatment of Uyghur and other ethnic Turkic minorities.

According to the information the CCP official outlet provided, Sun Hongmei, who is a Manchu female, was born in January 1970 in Beipiao, Liaoning, started working in July 1991, joined the Communist Party of China in December 1990, and graduated from the Department of Electronics and Information Systems, Inner Mongolia University with a university degree.

Her experiences include “From May 2017 to September 2018, Deputy Minister of the Organization Department of the Party Committee of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and full-time deputy director of the Evaluation Office of the Party Committee and Government of the Autonomous Region (at the department level); from September 2018 to August 2020, the Executive Deputy Minister of the Organization Department of the Party Committee of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.”

Liu Sushe, a Han male, was born in October 1967 in Yangling, Shaanxi. He started working in August 1989 and joined the Communist Party of China in April 1986. He graduated from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences with a major in Agricultural Economics and Management. He has a postgraduate degree and a Doctor of Management.

His experience as a State official is: from April 2014 to May 2017, Director of the Regional Economics Department of the National Development and Reform Commission; from May 2017 to June 2017, Director of the Fixed Asset Investment Department of the National Development and Reform Commission; June 2017 to September 2020, Director of the Second Bureau of the Secretary of the General Office of the State Council (during the period from March 2019 to July 2019, the first class of training for young and middle-aged cadres of the Central Party School).
