Another Uyghur Refugee Arrested by Turkish Police at China’s Request

Istanbul – Turkish police yesterday arrested Kuddus Abdukadir, a Uyghur who has lived in Istanbul for 13 years and is the father of three children. One of his children is critically ill, and the family depends on their work to survive amid Turkey’s economic crisis.

In a social media post before his arrest, Kuddus warned others with the “G87” security code not to go outside, revealing that police had detained him after discovering he was marked with the code—reportedly at China’s request. He was then taken to a deportation center in Aydın province.

Rights groups say that in recent years, many Uyghurs in Turkey have been arrested and even faced the threat of deportation to China, learning only after detention that they had been recorded in Turkish systems due to Chinese pressure. Kuddus had applied for Turkish citizenship multiple times but was unsuccessful.

His wife is calling on Turkish authorities to release him. The Uyghur Hope Humanitarian Service reported the arrest.
